A series that emphasizes doctrine, Scripture and the liturgical year. These three themes—Catholic beliefs, Catholic stories, and Catholic celebrations—are woven throughout the program. They are also taught as separate strands at each grade level.
The Kindergarten Student Book has 19 doctrine chapters, five Scripture study chapters and 10 liturgical lessons. The Kindergarten Teacher/Catechist Guide features helpful full-color lesson plans with reproducible parent pages.
Each Elementary Student Book includes either 18 or 19 doctrinal chapters and seven or eight core Scripture study chapters. The liturgical seasons are taught in a separate strand. Every doctrinal chapter in the student book includes a faith-focus question, faith vocabulary box, memory review questions and a family activity. Every scriptural chapter gives students background and context for reading a Bible story, the Bible story itself and a lesson on the meaning of the story.
The Teacher Manual includes wraparound lesson plans and two-step lessons: teach and apply. Each lesson contains helpful notes from two master catechists who walk teachers through the year.
Other program components include Class Kits for grades 1-6 with reproducible activity books, reproducible assessment tools books, Called to Prayer booklet, and Faith-Filled Classroom resource book. The Grade 2 Class Kit contains two additional sacramental preparation resource booklets. Class Kits for grades 7 and 8 include an assessment tool, prayer booklet and service project booklet. The Art and Environment Package contains 18 posters, seven banners and six packs of 50 pass-along cards, enough material for six classes (Grades 1-6). Faith First Videos have segments taken from The Visual Bible, moral dilemmas, prayer experiences, songs and real-life stories. Faith First At Home is a book of lesson plans for 27 sessions. Parents gather with all children at the same time using this one guide along with student books.
